Here are shots of my latest steel string built from an LMI kit (with a few add ons) during my steel string building class this semester. The back, sides and bridge are EIR, sitka top, ebony fretboard, mahogany neck, gotoh tuners. Peghead, end wedge, rosette and armrest are Macassar ebony veneers. Bindings and fretboard inlays are Brazilian cherry with blue purflings. Peghead marquetry was inspired by a design I saw on a Kent Everett guitar years ago done by Paul Bordeaux (sp)The original was in MOP, mine is in poplar and maple dyed black. Finish is catalyzed urethane. well, for some reason I can't get my pics to appear when I preview the post. I haven't had any problems in the past. I will see if tracy can upload them for me. |
No, actually it is blue fiber purfling from Gurian
Robbie, a very nice looking guitar. You know, usually it's the details that send us, and I just love that blue purfling. And, I like it paired w/ the Brazilian cherry. Tasty! Steve |

WOW ! Do ya think that's what LMI had in mind when they put together their kit? Your work is exceptional and inspirational. Catalyzed urethane? Is that covered in your DVD? The finish looks great. CLinton |

Thanks for all the praise guys! I too am inspired by the work I see here on the OLF. We have some real talent here. Yes Clinton, I do cover Catalyzed urethane finishes in my Finishing DVD. It isn't that much different then lacquer and it can be done in a fraction of the time. |

Those combination of woods look great Robbie! Definately a breakaway from a traditional rosette. How does it sound? |
